Today we had class in the morning and talked about our weekends and about the shows we had seen. We were giving a preview of the show we would be seeing which was Every Good Boy Deserves Favor. Its about a man who is put in an insane asylum for being a dissident in Russia. His cell mate is a man who thinks he is always surrounded by an orchestra. There really was an entire orchestra onstage playing what the man heard in his head. The play was really interesting. It was at its rawest form about choosing freedom over truth. The man who was put in the asylum for speaking against the government struggles with lying and saying he was "cured" and thanking the government for helping him and being let go or remaining where he was and holding on to his integrity. It was really interesting to talk about the audience reaction...they laughed at places where it wasnt funny...and our class talked about that maybe the playw right Tom Stoppard masks the seriousness of the play with humor...it was a very interesting class.
But before we saw the show we toured the national theatre and got to go on stage and explore one of the sets of a show we are seeing. It was amazing!
We toured backstage and got sneek peaks of props and puppets in the next shows we will be seeing.
After the tour a group of us went to the Imperial War Museam. There were so many tanks and planes and uniforms and guns and submarines...it was overwhelming. There was even a WWI/WWII exhibit where you could walk through a mock trench...it was freaky.ANDDDD there was a sweet James Bond/Ian Flemming(the author of James Bond) exhibit. I saw props from the movies and original copies of all the books and a shirt that DANIEL CRAIG wore!! yess!! and i thought of my cousin mike and how much he would have appreicated it. There was also a large holocaust exhibit. It was so sad and heartbreaking. So we could only take so much of that and decided to leave and grab dinner and go to the show.
and then we got back and of course...played hearts...its become a nightly activity.
With all my love, from across the pond,
Leighanne Evelyn.
